Data Management Plan (DMP) Services

A Data Management Plan (DMP) Service supports researchers and data stewards in creating and managing data management plans. DMPs are documents that outline how data will be handled during and after a research project, covering aspects like data collection, sharing, preservation, and security. A DMP service can provide templates, guidance, or automated support for completing these plans, ensuring that data management practices align with best practices and institutional or funding requirements. DMP services are designed to help researchers create and manage a Data Management Plan, which is a structured document that outlines how research data will be handled during and after a project. It helps researchers not only with planning, but also with managing, documenting, and tracking research data throughout the project’s life. Research Data Management Organizers (RDMO) are an example of DMP services, which are open source and go beyond the initial planning. They track and manage data continuously throughout a project, making it suitable for complex projects with ongoing data requirements. The vision of the NFDI concerning DMPs was published recently ([@Diederichs_2024]).
