NFDI4Earth Synthesis Architecture

What is the NFDI4Earth Synthesis Architecture?

The NFDI4Earth Synthesis Architecture deals with the design of an overarching NFDI4Earth Architecture. The NFDI4Earth Synthesis Architecture is described in a three-pillar approach (Community Services, NFDI4Earth Services, Basic IT Services) and consisting of individual building blocks such as Data Portal, Registry for Infrastructures and Services, Middleware Services etc., of which each is assigned to one of the three pillars.

Why is the NFDI4Earth Synthesis Architecture important?

The NFDI4Earth Synthesis Architecture sorts the various internal NFDI4Earth services (products) and external services in sensible groups. It provides a terminology to describe all services. Connections and dependencies between the services will in the future be described and sketched in an ontology. Responsibilities for each service are assigned. Supported standards, interfaces, and dependencies are defined and where necessary deposited in the NFDI4Earth Label. It is a living and continuously developed architecture in an editorial process.

What will be offered in this article collection?

This collection describes the NFDI4Earth Synthesis Architecture in a three pillar approach. The pillars are Community Services, NFDI4Earth Services, and Basic IT Services. To each of the pillars several building blocks are asigned. Such building blocks are e. g. Data Portal, Metadata Catalog of Datasets, Registry for Infrastucture, and each are described in an individual article.
